October is over!

October has been a fun filled month with lots of activity planned across all our libraries in Swansea.

We celebrated with the winners of The Summer Reading Challenge at the National Waterfront Museum at our annual presentation evening. The brilliant children and young people who took part were awarded certificates by the Lord Mayor as well as 3 overall winners receiving prizes donated by Swansea Grand theatre and Swansea Arena.

St Thomas Library hosted the fantastic master Storyteller Daniel Morden who managed to spook everyone out with stories from his new book Strange Tales, available now to borrow at Swansea libraries.

MAD science turned Sketty Library into a potions laboratory, with bubbling cauldrons, dramatic displays and fog filled flasks.

Library customers in Killay learnt all about the work Screen Alliance Wales have done on Film and Tv productions and got the chance to use simple SFX make up to create gruesome injuries.

The African Community Centre were back at Gowerton Library with the ever popular drumming and storytelling session at the end of October in conjunction with Fusion and Community Cohesion to help celebrate Black History Month.

A community group visited Central library for an informative session with Gwilym Games one of our Local Studies Librarians, we received some very positive feedback.

“It was a fantastic afternoon so informative and not quite what I expected it to be I don't think we appreciate how much information there is in the libraries and we should probably make even more use of them than we do , but please tell everyone in the Library thank you very much it was a fantastic couple of hours and I'm going to definitely going to the next couple of meetings they're having there and thank you again for organising it all . A big round of applause for Gwilym he Made it very enjoyable”

Drawing spooky season to a close was a talk by Gwilym on Spring heeled Jack, White ladies and other Gower spectres, it was wonderfully informative and eerily spooky, we will be keeping an eye out for the White lady of Caswell on our next visit to the beach. BOO!
